Birthstones

Women have always been captivated by wearing stones that align with them astrologically or otherwise. Birthstones are sets of stones associated with either the month of birth or zodiac/star sign. Birthstones are traditionally worn by people born during that month and have been said to bring good health or fortune. Generally two options are given: one gem is usually a semi-precious or precious stone which is the traditional association, while the second is a more commonly available or cheaper option. The more affordable gemstone set were divised during the 20th century. The effects of the gemstones are said to be compounded when worn during the month. That is, if you were born in January, wearing Garnet during January will increase its effects. Of course, these days birthstones are mostly for fun. Since most people don't know the correspondences and meanings of the stones they wear, they're really just a way to find a favorite stone or lucky charm.
