Here are some early design notes. I'm using European 6-1 because I think the heavy density of the chain reflects to mood of the image well. Laying everything out like this is something I do regularly when I'm getting into a design. I start by gathering or creating some of the core design components, then lay them out and move them around to see how they work together. It also starts to give me a sense of the finished shapes and sizes.
I think the flat silver plate is going to work really well. My biggest challenge will be to attach it to the chain without interfering with the clean lines. Right now, you're just seeing a scrap of silver, but I'll cut and smooth it once I get the design closer to reality. I love how flat the silver is, but I may end up oxidizing it with Liver of Sulphur which will hopefully give it a blue tint.

I'm going to add the blue quartz to the chain to pick up the color of the water. You can see below that I'm going to attach the beads in pairs with wire running under the jump rings, and looped on top to act as stoppers. The wire doesn't show on the back of the chain, but rather runs through the center of the rings.

And, of course, here is the image that is inspiring this jewelry:

Looking at it again, I may end up turning the whole design upside down, since the flat blue water is turning out to be more like the silver plate than the chain. The texture of the chain is moving more in the direction of the wooden pier.
Stay tuned for more design updates and auction dates.
