Creating: Charity Jewelry Project Part 5

I've been hard at work cutting and filing the silver sheet, and finishing up the length of the chain. The necklace is starting to feel more "real" somehow, now that all the pieces are fully assembled.

Here is the silver, part way through the cut. You can see a corner where I punched holes to practice the seam. Since I don't have a large file, I had to use one of my tiny diamond-files. making the edge smooth and straight took nearly an hour. I then tumbled the silver for about 5 hours. It's now a high shine, but some scratches are still visible. Most will be covered by the chain, and the others can go on the back of the pendant. Once oxidized, it may be less obvious.

A couple of thoughts on the necklace:

  • I'm not sure I'm loving the blue beads anymore. If it were just chain, they would work, but I think they detract from the minimalist look of the picture.
  • To add some more interest, I think I'll cut a rectangle of silver the same width as the long length of chain, and weave it in on one side about halfway up the neck.

Auction dates will be announced soon. Help me raise money for NARSAD to fund research for mental illness and depression.
