Designing: Sterling Silver Byzantine and Amethyst Earrings
Mar 8th, 2009 by admin
Multiple strands of mismatched chain are always a fun start to an earring design. They add a lot of texture and length, without too much bulk. Gemstones can easily be wrapped to them to add splashes of color, so that the silver still takes center stage.
To these earrings I added my “jewelry signature”: a way of adding something unique to the designer in a way that is instantly recognizable. In my case, a little chain maille to a design that, quite honestly, could have been made by anyone. Another example of this is my Tunduru Sapphire Necklace. A simple, beaded design gains a touch of chain maille to help define it as part of a collection.
I love the way these earrings turned out, and the jump rings help to add shape to the design. Very limited availability.
