Years ago I took a class from The Bead Shop where we learned to take inspiration from a photograph or painting and turn it into a beaded necklace. We grew a pallet based on the photo, and used focal beads to echo important features. Here's the necklace I made for the project:

This was based on a picture of a woman in a blue dress in a luxurious lounge room. There were lots of deep blues, and the whole picture was tinted very slightly blue. The orange highlights came from polished wood and bottles on a table.
Now, heavily beaded pieces are not my thing, but it was so fun to think in a new creative way. This is the general concept of my collaborative charity project: painting a photograph in jewelry. Instead of a beaded necklace like the class focused on, I'm choosing to work with metals and chain, using beads in more of a support role.
Auction dates will be announced soon. Proceeds go to NARSAD and the winner will receive the created necklace.
