More About Me

I thought, as part of my 5 year anniversary celebrations, I'd tell you a little more about me.

As many of you know, I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and I moved to the US about six years ago so my husband could go to school at Stanford. We can't get over what an opportunity it is to be here, and even though we may end up staying here, we take every advantage to explore our new home. Back in Australia, we didn't do much traveling. You know how it is; you only see a city's highlights when you have out-of-town guests. We've discovered we're 100% addicted to road trips. Considering I had never left Australia before we moved here, the fact that I've seen all these new places is still astounding. I've fallen in love with Utah and Montana and can't wait to discover more places I could live.Elena Adams

One thing that's been a great addition to our traveling is that we're both hobby photographers. I started learning to use digital cameras as a way of getting better jewelry photos, but found that I love macro work - anything that involves a bug or a flower and I'm there. My adventurous streak is pretty mild, as streaks go. I've tried snow-boarding and skiing, gotten and as far as being hooked into a flying fox harness, but my immense fear of falling and my crippling fear of heights is a little restrictive. Good thing I love snow shoeing and hiking. I trust my feet, and falling at walking speed isn't exactly heart-stopping stuff.

When we first moved here, like most slightly-unwilling immigrants, all I could do was think about going home. Our time here, our exploration of the western United States, and finding good friends have turned that around completely. I'm now applying for citizenship, and I'm having a hard time imagining returning to Australia.

French Toast in StockholmI'm a major foodie. One of the best parts about traveling is trying new foods, and even though being vegetarian limits my options, living vicariously while Andrew eats all sorts of delectable dishes is pretty good too. If I didn't already have far too much to do, I'd seriously consider starting a food blog. I also have to confess that I'm a bit of a nerd.

Many of my hours that don't go into jewelry are spent in games. And yes, I play Dungeons and Dragons on occasion. I always worry a little about the stereotype of chain maillers being gamers - I have no idea why that happens, and even though my style is very different to a lot of other chain makers, there's no denying there's a small correlation. I would like to think that gamers tend to have analytical minds, and chain maille fills that urge to solve little puzzles. That could just be me trying to justify it, though.

So there's a little to whet your appetite. Don’t forget to keep getting your entries in for a chance to win earrings, and a gift certificate.
