Alright girls, here's a tip: start bookmarking your favorite jewelry now! IM your husband one now and then with no attached note; print out a favorite and leave it on a coffee table or bench; enlist a friend to help him shop.

Start dropping subtle hints now and avoid getting a teddy bear and a box of chocolates (although I'm sure the chocolates will be appreciated too).

Unless your beau is fashion conscious or was raised in a household of women, most men have tremendous trouble picking jewelry. Short of relying on advertising, it's unlikely that he's clued in to the latest trends and lines.

He's far more likely to fall into a mall jeweler and grab the first thing he sees with a heart on it, than he is to pick something you actually want. While he may love the thrill of surprising you, he may seriously appreciate some tips, especially if you have particular tastes.
