Now for a very feminine version inspired by The Vampire Diaries. I guess the vamp-lovers like my work – two others featured me in Part II! I’ve never really thought of my jewelry like that, but I grew up watching plenty of Vincent Price and period dramas, so I suppose there must be some influence from those old, Victorian looks.

This is incredible! When I first saw this I assumed I accidentally wandered into the items section of the website, but look closely – this piece is constructed from layers and layers of jewelry over a plain bra to create something that looks like it belongs in a Victoria’s Secret runway show. Those garnets studs and chain and the bottom – those are my multiple-strand slave earrings!

Shopping for January babies? Garnet is their birthstone and it’s an absolute crowd-pleaser, suiting just about anyone.

Garnet is a very energizing stone which cleanses the chakras, bringing passion or serenity as needed. It inspires love and balances the sex drive, and is an excellent stone for times of crisis. Garnet is also protective when worn traveling, and opens the heart and makes the wearer more confident.

Garnet has been used as a gemstone and an abrasive since the bronze age. It has a large number of varieties and colors, including grossular , rhodonite and tsavorite, but is most commonly known in its beautiful, deep-red form.

Grossular garnet (or grossularite garnet) is a beautiful variety of garnet. Ranging from deep green to pale green and bronze, it is mostly found in Siberia. Other colors of the mineral are found in Tanzania and Kenya, which form the more popular tsavorite garnet.

This lesser used gem is reminiscent of a forest palate and sparkles so wonderfully in the light. When paired with jade, the colors just come to life.

I started out by wrapping the jade flowers so that other beads could be attached to them. I tried stringing garnet onto beading wire, but the connecting crimps took up too much room and the cluster of silver was distracting. Instead, I chose to wire wrap them in threes, graduating the color as I went. Tripling them like that made the color variation much clearer than wrapping them singly.

Once the bracelet part was complete, I made a fine chain loop for the middle finger and started wrapping the connectors in place.

When that was done, the base bracelet felt a little bare against all the intricacies of the upper part. So, I wrapped some extra loops of beads onto the bracelet to give it some shape. I had initially hoped to use a jade ring as a loop for the clasp, but found that closing it was fiddly due to the thickness of the stone. Instead I opted for a large silver ring.

I love the way it turned out: it’s so delicate and the colors work really well together. I think it’s perfect for adding a little nature-loving charm to your outfit without going overboard.

What are some things you can do to cut down on summer discomfort, without losing your fashionable edge?

• Avoid really heavy necklaces and bracelets – stick to slimmer designs rather than solid metals and dense chains.
• Wear large pendants on finer chains – plenty of impact without the extra weight.
• Try gemstone designs, rather than full metal pieces – the gems heat up slower and don’t tend to trap heat under them the way precious metals can.
• Wear open weaves of chain rather than dense chain maille to allow air into the skin.
• Avoid wearing moisturizers directly under your jewelry to avoid added stickiness.
• Can’t do without your favorite metal cuff? Brush a light dusting of baby powder onto you wrist first – it will help the cuff move over your skin without snagging and will absorb any extra perspiration. Be sure to wipe or wash your jewelry afterward to clean off the powder.
• Stick to design that you can easily take on and off in between public appearances. An easy clasp on your bracelet means you can remove it while you’re driving, and slip it back on once you’re ready for your next big entrance.
• Still can’t stand the heat? Consider large earrings and anklets to add glitz instead.

Sterling silver slave earrings with multiple strands of chain and garnet.

I bought a pack of layered ear cuffs a few weeks ago and thought they’d be the perfect start to a multiple stranded pair of slave earrings. I knew I wanted a single strand of just wire-wrapped garnet, so started with that connecting the cuff to the post with the standard length. Next I added two strands of fine sterling silver chain, and dropped rose-toned garnet rounds from the lower one. The middle strand looked a little bare, so I wrapped in pretty, cushion-cut garnets at odd spacings.

I’m never entirely sure on what to add to the second post. It usually becomes obvious as the design progresses, but I usually keep them short, so it doesn’t verge on early ’90s tacky. With the extra strands in these slave earrings, I decided to push it a little longer than usual and added a short stretch of chain along with two garnet beads to carry the design over to the other ear.
